Please join us for DCDBA's last CLE luncheon for 2014. Our distinguished guest speaker is Judge Darrin P. Gayles, the newest District Court Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Judge Gayles began his legal career as a prosecutor in the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office. He subsequently served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida prior to joining the judiciary.  Judge Gayles was appointed to the County Court by Governor Jeb Bush in 2004. In 2011, Governor Charlie Crist appointed him to replace retiring Judge Ronald Friedman. Judge Gayles was retained on both courts without opposition in 2006 and 2012, respectively.  On February 6, 2014, President Barack Obama nominated Judge Gayles to fill the seat previously held by Judge Patricia Seitz.  On June 17, 2014, the U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed Judge Gayles’ nomination by a 98-0 vote.  Judge Gayles will discuss his personal journey through the various court systems, the federal appointment process, and what he expects from attorneys in his courtroom. He will also talk about ethics and civility in the legal profession.  As always, the presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.
